Yes, I trace most of the pony pictures. I don't deny it. It isn't called ponyderivative for nothing. I do insert my own style and minor corrections into it and I do draw my own stuff. What do you all think?

Hmmm.. I noticed that I've already seen the poses, but I never bothered to ask whether it's just using a reference screenshot or tracing.

So what do we learn from this? Apparently you can trace in a lame/uninteresting way (= you don't need any skill to do that, only time), or you can do it in a very skillful manner and add a lot of personal style and details in it that weren't there originally.

Mh, the result outweighs the lack of sketch work in my opinion.

So, concerning the comments: Well.. some people are superficial. It's like "Wow, this is an amazing image... well, if it wasn't an oc pony". What the..? The use of stigmatic words can ruin stuff for people for some reason *shrug*

You just can't please everyone. Unfortunately, it's also true everywhere else.

Tracing will always draw out the people who think they're being e-heroes by pointing it out, even when you've spelled it out beforehand. Their bad for not paying attention, not yours for doing just what you said you were going to do.

Those are the type of people who can't see the difference between the derivative work and the original screenshot.

I personally see nothing wrong with vector tracing. It takes quite a bit of skill to do it with most programs so it shows you put a lot of hard work into it. I got into an argument once with this really snobbish deviant who took a screenshot of someone's vector art and made fun of how they were being unoriginal with tracing. On the contrary I looked through their gallery and found traced pictures also.

Besides, your tracing isn't done exactly like the screenshot, you make things different like the shape of their hooves and their snouts and you make their hair more detailed and use some good shading techniques and whatnot, that shows that you are a good digital artist! And a lot of your pics are original anyhow!

I know the feeling. All i can draw freehand are landscapes, but i really wanted to make ponypictures, so i had to resort to screenshot-tracing. [link] [link] [link]
[link] - all based on screenshots i traced and spliced together. People seem to like them nevertheless.
